If I wake up during the night and feel wide awake, I always get up. I often do laundry during the night or read. My best sleep is when I go to bed at 10pm.
I find when I drink wine at night after easy falling asleep I wake up 4 hours later wide awake. Get up and sometimes go back for another couple of hours.
We have night flood lights on during the night so inside the house it is never completely dark. Find getting up at dawn is very important to me, no matter how long I sleep.
Of course I also have the luxury being retired and could always take a short nap (long naps make me drowsy).
