My Experience With Praziquantel
I was diagnosed with Schitsosomiasis (s. japonicum) - a blood fluke - by Dr. Amin's Parasitology Center in AZ. I went to my general doctor and he admitted he knew nothing about it and couldn't prescribe anything, and sent me to an Infectious Disease specialist.
The Infectious Disease specialist looked at the lab results and believed me, but he wanted me to get a blood and urine test for Schistosoma as a more accurate baseline before we started meds. I did these and he gave me a script for praziquantel - 600mg - 3 times a day - for 2 days.
This is a lower dose than is generally recommend by CDC and internet health guidelines.
I took the first tablet and within minutes I could feel a heavy, intoxicating feeling spreading through my body. I could feel my belly pulsing or bubbling. It was a strong enough drug that I wouldn't want to be driving or in public, and I lay on the couch for hours. About 3 hours into it I felt tingling and body sensations. About 6 hours in I could feel sensations in my liver / kidney area. I woke up the next morning feeling kind of "hungover" - a general overworked liver feeling.
The second day went smoother. I took the tablets all day and went out to the local Full Moon party at night - an event I have ALWAYS felt ill at due to
parasites - and I felt pretty good.
Praziquantel is a strong drug, a little hard on the body & liver, but it's bearable and not unpleasant It reminds me a bit of drinking alcohol.
I am kind of glad I only took 600mg per dose... because 1200mg or more seems like it would be a bit heavy on the system.
The morning after the second day I passed stools that had a few "rolled up totmato" skin type objects and an
inch long "black worm" fluke-looking thing. There was also a bit of blood on the toilet paper, something I have not seen before, ever.
I took some liposomal glutathione on both days and the morning after to help detox the Prazi and also help clean the blood of dead flukes.
I am glad I took the Prazi. My 'gut feeling' is that it killed all or most of my schitsoma worms on the first dose. The followups were 'just in case'.
I am going to rest my liver for a week or two... and probably embark on Dr. Amin's "Freedom Cleanse Restore" for 4 months to clean up any residual or undiagnosed
parasites that I suspect I may have... given my barefoot, travel, wilderness camping lifestyle.
