Goitrogen Experiment

I have been eating broccoli, sauerkraut, cauliflower, and peanut butter daily (well the peanut butter more like every other day) along with 50mg of Iodine from Lugol's.

Zero thyroid problems as along as I eat enough calories.

If I restrict calories, with or without goitrogens, I become hypothyroid and have horrible tightness and pain in the thyroid area.

My hypothesis is that the goitrogenic substances in these foods work with the Iodine in some way to regulate metabolism, but I don't know by what mechanism yet. In other words, goitrogenic foods are great for you if you are getting enough iodine!
