Diethylcarbamazine (aka DEC or Dimmitrol) is a synthetic version of piperazine. A 21 day course of DEC is recommended. DEC should be ramped slowly; ie DEC 100mg for 3 days to 1 week, then DEC 200mg for 3 days to 1 week, then DEC 400mg for 21+ days. WHO recommended dose is 6mg/kg body weight divided into 2 doses per day for 21+ days.
