Question about iodine making: might have accidentally stinted on potassium iodide
I just made another bottle of
Lugol's 5% (approximately). 100gm potassium
Iodide plus 50gm
Iodine crystals to 34
oz water (to make 1 liter).
When I added the potassium iodide, the water started flowing out of the brown
quart bottle. I ended up having to siphon off about one or two
oz of potassium iodide.
I still put in about 50gm of the
Iodine crystals, and now the solution tastes a little too harsh.
Is it ok to take? I am assuming the ratio of
Iodine crystals to potassium
Iodide may be slightly too high.
Should I add in some potassium iodide? I am under the impression that the potassium
Iodide must be added first, so can't do here?
I was using 34
oz because someone said that's the amount I needed to make the correct percentage. However, in the future, I will only use 32
oz. That is all Boston Brown bottle can hold with the addition of the
Potassium Iodide and iodine crystals.
Thanks in advance.
