One day (1 day) long fast. Breakfast, sleep, cold.


I decided to get back to a bit of fasting after more than a year. I'm 33, male, and have fasted earlier between 1 and 7 days.

As of now, I plan to Water Fast one day a week, or about that. I ate my last meal on Sunday evening, and now it is Tuesday morning here, and I have only had water. Since I've been away from fasting for a while, I have a few questions.

1. How should I break this day long fast, or precisely, 36 hour fast? I thought of eating fruit, but I am very hungry and I would like something that is more filling. If I eat a lot of fruit, I am afraid of getting a Sugar spike that is not healthy suddenly after 36 hours of no carbs. I am going to cook an apple and a banana with cinnamon and eat that for now, but I am looking for a standard breakfast that I can have after each of these 36 hour fasts. Perhaps cooked vegetables as they are lighter than grain but also not so Sugar heavy?

The other option I have is to eat a bit of fruit and then soon eat a proper meal after a couple of hours. However, when I go to work the only time I get to eat a meal after breakfast at 8.30 AM is about 1 PM by when I am very hungry again.

2. Earlier I have broken these 36 hour fasts with anything that's in the fridge - vegetables, bread, grain, cake. Since the fast is so short, does it really make much of a difference?

3. I felt very cold at night. It's about 59 F or 15 C temperature here, and I just wear my cotton clothes, maybe a shawl. But last night I had to take out my winter clothes and quilt. What can one do to be able to fast better in winters, other than drink warm water which is not so effective in my experience? I wouldn't be able to fast in late November and upto January if this is how it remains.

4. Instead of sleeping from 9.30 to 6 as I usually to I could sleep only from 12.30 am to 5 am or so, with some interruptions, even though eventually I was not cold anymore. I know in longer fasts less sleep is normal, but is it also expected in a 36 hour fast? Or could it have been some other reason? Today as the day passes I'll know if I am sleep deprived or fatigued. So far I am not.

I would appreciate any thoughts on this. Thank you.
