Soluble or insoluble depends on what you're trying to accomplish. Bowel movement is improved by insoluble fiber and cholesterol is lowered by soluble fiber.

I'd suggest both. That is what whole foods supply. Rather than psillium husks (insoluble only), try whole freshly ground flax seeds, which supply both insoluble and soluble fiber along with omega-3 fatty acids.
