I was suffering from chronic gential herpes breakouts. Mine were at the base of my spine and went outwards. It seemed that my breakouts were mainly diet related. But, at other times, even if I didn't eat a "trigger" food, I'd still breakout. I tried a high Lysine, low Arginine diet (which was very restrictive), all kinds of herbs, oils and 50 parts bleach and 50 parts water. Of the herbs, red algae seemed to help reduce the breakouts at 2000 mg a day. When I'd feel a breakout coming and see a small red spot, the bleach and water would usually take it away in a day but not always. Sometimes I would get a full breakout anyway. The bleach, depending on the strengh, would sometimes cause a burn and then a new breakout would be "underneath" where nothing more could be done. Needless to say, I ended up with marks and scars from all of the "experiments". About 3 weeks ago, I decided to try BHT. I'd read about it on the web but wasn't sure if I wanted to use it since it's approved as a preservative by the FDA and nothing else. I also read about tumor/cancer related things but I later found out that there was a lot more involved and that BHT might not have been the cause. Anyhow, I was getting pretty desperate and so I got some. I started out with about 100 mg. That day I got a small spot about the size of a pinhead. I decided to take a regular 250 mg capsule. By the end of the day, it was gone. I started taking 350 mg daily and I was no longer breaking out. I decided to take two capsules, 700 mg a day and have not had a major breakout since. BHT supposidly works by removing part of the lipid coat on the virus so that the body's immune system can destroy it. They also believe that it alters a protein molecule so that it's unable to attach itself to new cells. I tried some "trigger" foods. I started to get a small bump as a breakout. I put some oil (olive) on it and some powdered BHT topically. Within a few hours, it was gone. No breakout. Now I use the oil followed by powder wherever a breakout is seen and it makes them disappear. You may want to do some web info. searches for yourself. I used BHT and herpes as keywords. There was also a book written in the 1980s titled, "Wipeout herpes with BHT". One of the authors was Steven Fowkes.
