unfortunately, that sounds a lot like herpes. :( It generally appears in clusters of red dots which are very small. They are there for a while, usually a week to 10 days or more, then they heal up and leave tiny purplish dots/scabs. But the exact appearance and symptoms can vary between people. You may want to goto 'google' and type 'herpes' then 'google images' to see pics.
but I am confused.. You doc saw an active outbreak and didn't take a swab/culture of it?
That is actually THE MOST ACCURATE way to tell if someone has herpes.
For me, I got a swab test AND a blood test during my first outbreak and both came up positive for HSV.
