I have had exoliative cheilitis for about 10 years. I bit my lip so much that i has bitten the skin clean off on most of my bottom lip ( as far as my teeth would reach, same for toplip but it's mainly underneath). I probably bit them from about 14-24.I have stopped biting about 3 years ago and have gone through most creams/chapstics to try and ease the problem but nothings works. Also went to a derm and have tried hydrocortisone, didn't work either - infact I think this makes it works because this is a mild steroid that eats your skin trying to find good skin - this just inflames them more I think. Anyway I have basically got into a cycle of leaving the scab on my lip for about 14 days before it comes off so I am giving it a chance to heal naturally. When I first started I could only manage about 4/5 days before the scab looked so bad you had to scrape it off ( water/vasilne), so for me to be able to last 14 days must be an improvement. The way I see it is how many years did you bite your lips for???, it will take time but I think this is the way forward - just leave them alone.
This is 'proper exfoliative cheilits as most of it is self inflicted - I think most people would agree'. A lot of people on here seem to have porosis and other skin didorders wich affect the lips aswell as there face or something, making this forum a bit confusuing sometimes because people have got totally different disorders
