They Treat the Infection But Don't Stop the CAUSE
Two years ago I got my first gum infection. Even though one dentist couldn't even FIND it on the x-ray (!)since, as she said, "well, um, you're on
Antibiotics so it's not showing up"
I was referred to a
root canal specialist who happened to be HER HUSBAND!! My face swelled up for a week afterwards. $1,000.
Now I have the same infection on the same place! This dentist said the
root canal "looks beautiful" (much to my surprise) and it is a periodontal problem. Did he want to find the CAUSE of this continued problem? NO. He wants to scrape the root instead and sell me an $80 hydrofloss water pik. (scaling and root planing). He didn't say how many TIMES I'd have to come in for further root planings; he just wants to do it. Well, so happens that when I floss between the 2 teeth that are underneath this infection I can feel a 2 level step-down; that is, it feels like the crowns are not fitting properly . After all, one of those crowns is over 25 years old!! So I think that these 2 crowns are not meeting right anymore and food is packed in there which creates the infection. This is occurring on the INSIDE part of the gums. The infection is on the OUTSIDE or cheek side.
Anyway, I cancelled my appt and bought a hydrofloss and some
essential oils and have got ALL the redness stopped and the swelling is 1/2 gone. But it still lingers. I dont know what to do. I"ve read that with a gum infection you come back half a dozen times; they don't tell you that NOR do they tell you that it is around $150 for that scaling and root planing just on that one area. To chew on it is not the perfect comfort we all want with chewing. But who knows how it would feel after all the scaling and root planing?? Two new crowns might fix the problem but that would cost at least $800; probably much more. I cannot believe that I've thought of this non-fitting crown possibility and HE DIDN'T.
