Psyllium-only cleansing--how do I start?
Hello everyone,
I've read about colon cleansing for a long while and it's been preoccupying my mind since. Because I've read good things in one of the archives about
Holistic Horizons, I was thinking about ordering their product (ouch, pricy). I live in Canada and my local health food stores have it but for a lot more than what the online stores offer. However, just as a "test run" I wanted to try the psyllium husks on their own and see what comes out--specifically, I'm hoping for mucoid plaque--but will it be as good as the commercial products? I'd rather go for the cheap bulk stuff than pay a LOT more for proprietary formulations and name brands, but I'm willing to dish the dough out if it ends up not being as good. (Students still financially dependent on their parents need to be thrifty.) ;) I checked the ingredients in Holistic Horizons (and other popular colon cleanse products) and the main ingredient is definitely psyllium husks. In addition to that, I've read of people mixing that up with bentonite clay but again, for a test run I just want to keep things simple.
So, any suggestions as to how I should start? The questions I have in mind are:
a)
When is the best time for me to take my psyllium? In the mornings I eat a hot whole grain cereal (cracked wheat, rye and flax seed) and put a heaping tablespoon of ground flax in my milk (for those omega 3's). That should be enough fiber for the morning, so I'm thinking maybe I should take the psyllium supplement in the evening...?
b)
How much should I start with? A teaspoon in a large glass of water? A tablespoon? When should I start increasing my doses?
Also,
I'm concerned about having to poop when I'm out of the house. I'm one of those people who get a little uncomfortable when I'm in a public washroom with some stranger(s) and need to go #2. However, I won't have access to my private home washroom 24/7 since I have school for most of the day. :( Is this something I should worry about?
If it helps any, I'm 5'3" and 110 pounds.
Lastly,
about how long do you think it will take to see the mucoid plaque?
Thanks. :)
