Antibiotic Reaction

Last month I had a dental abcess and took amoxiciliin (related to penicillin) for two weeks. About halfway through the treatment my BMs started to improve in consistency and volume. For over a year I had loose and scanty stools, and by the end of this course of Antibiotics (my first time taking anything of the kind in literally decades) my digestion was better than it's been in years.

I was under the impression that Antibiotic use tended to wreak havoc with the intestinal flora. So I'm wondering why this seemingly opposite effect occurred.

All I can conclude is that I must have been overloaded with bad bacteria and the Antibiotic must have killed it off.

Now going into the third week since stopping the antibiotic, the bowel condition is slowly reverting to the previous state. I have been eating plenty of fermented foods. I don't do dairy products, so acidophilus is probably useless for me.

Seeking advice to keep the apparent benefit I gained from use of medication.

Thanks for any suggestions.
