I'm not certain this is the place to discuss it, but it does seem sometimes that the mistaken are in charge.
Their apparent success, however, depends on much back-slapping and glad-handing in closed circles, I think.
Yet, in the everyday world of the rest of us, those circles are faraway and dream-like.
Everything, profits included, depends on our willingness to buy, or accept, what is offered.
I think it is very important for parents to realize that THEY are the greatest influence in their child's life...NOT the television set...not even the one at the neighbor's house.
A parent with imagination and an interest in their child's well-being, willing to invest the time and attention it takes, is more powerful than all the networks and corporations put together, in the mind of the child.
The secret lies in NOT confronting the outside influence, but in DELIGHTING the child.
We sometimes forget that 'excitement' and 'alarm' dished up by media are not nearly as satisfying as 'interest' and 'imagination'. 'Love', my friends, is the answer...the love and confidence that shines in a parent's, or a friend's, eyes.
Offenses stand out all around us, demanding our attention. But the really valuable things in our lives aren't advertised.
All we need to do is open our eyes, listen, and imagine happier alternatives...then do them.
