I believe Whitetiger had also stated in an earlier post that papaya and pineaple, as suggested above, do provide you with enough enzymes.
As for the HCL, Moreless had suggested that lemon is a much easier option.
Also, chewing thoroughly - (I believe at least 28 times) before swallowing is very important as this is the first stage of digestion and starts the production of stomach acids and the release of the proper enzymes by the pancreas.
