The point of fasting: use the energy needed for disgestion for housecleaning in the body.
Anything, everything that you do in that direction is a better choice.
Anything you put in your mouth that has to be digested slows down the process, but that isn't necessarily a bad thing. The pulp has to be digested, the membrane of the sections has to be digested. You can peel the pulp out of the membrane like we southern girls do when making ambrosia, but goodness, that's a lotta messin'!
Or you can do like Zach does: pop in a section ... chew chew chew ... spit out the fruit, only swallowing the chewed juice and only a bit of the pulp.
I'd think Zach's method also helps with "muscle-memory" ... you've been chewing since you were 1 yr old and got your first teeth. Like a smoker who misses doing something with hands when they quit the ciggies.
