I had my Mirena out on 4/10/07 and I only had a VERY light period for the first 4-5 days. Only really had to wear mini-pads. I am still waiting for a "regular" period. I have read that some women have really heavy periods with clotting and all, but in my case, I did not experience that. I think it varies from woman to woman. Good Luck!
