Hi there,
It's been a while so I thought I'd update the forum and ask for any insight.
I completed the first line of treatment from the triple therapy and didn't see much progress in my symptoms. The therapy made me extremely weak and did not prove to be very helpful.
I then took a course of rifaximin for SIBO. I felt the best I've ever felt for about 4-5 days. Then my symptoms slowly crept back.
My GI doc then performed a colonoscopy and EGD on me. He took a biopsy from the EGD of my small intestines. During the procedure, he saw inflammation of my small intestines and colon. The results didn't come back w/ much except acid reflux. He's looked at all the potential signs for parasites and crohn's but nothing seems to line up w/ either.
I'm doing the pill cam on Wednesday just to confirm it's not Chrohn's and some more blood work to identify inflammation triggers which could prove to be parasites.
I've done two stool tests, both of which have come back negative for everything.
My doc has also suggested doing a CT scan just in case it's something not in the GI tract. A friend actually had inflammation of the appendix that caused a lot of the same issues, so I'm keen to get the CT done.
I'm starting to run out of options though. We've tried everything and it's now been three years. I've asked for a referral to a tropical medicine doctor at UCLA to continue down the parasite route.
To recap, the only meds that have been effective for a short period of time have been Metranidazole, Tinidazole and Rifaximin. Albendazole made me feel terrible but I'm assuming it's b/c I didn't cut it up and it's hard for the gut to digest.
After the pill cam and blood work on Weds, I'm going to try the Metranidazole/Albendazole combination. Even though Giardia hasn't come back on any tests, I'm interested to see if maybe I have a chronic/resistant form that is unidentifiable by traditional labs. This all started from my first trip to India 3 years ago when I drank the water and ate all the food, so Giardia keeps coming back in my head.
So with that, any words of advice? Lineup? Jazzy?
I've lost 10-15 lbs of weight/muscle in the past few months, my fatigue is back worst then ever, terrible pain under the left rib, pain around navel, upper joint pain in back, sinus issues, terrible constipation etc. etc.
Please help!
Cheers,
Brian
