Actually there is nothing to debate in what you have posted.  Sometimes Jesus' teachings are so easy and simple that people can't understand them and His teachings about God and love are on that level.  Love isn't difficult or complex, it's very easy and that's what He taught in the verses below.  Jesus is teaching us that loving God and loving our neighbor are the same thing - they are identical.  (We are all gods and Jesus taught us that as well, or more appropriately reminded us of that too.)  Yet even with the literal verses below most folks fail to see the "Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself" which means if you don't love yourself - it is impossible to love your neighbor.  This scripture tells us that following these two commands are equal to abiding by the entire Old Testament.  You need nothing else from the OT and actually you need nothing more from the NT.

Matthew 22:34-40:

But when the Pharisees had heard that he had put the Sadducees to silence, they were gathered together. Then one of them, which was a lawyer, asked him a question, tempting him, and saying, Master, which is the great commandment in the law? Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.
