Sweeteners have their place, is is not a good idea to have an outright "ban" on sweeteners for those who are about to commence a candida program, especially those who would KILL for a sweet treat, and there are certainly many out there who would! After seeing many patients,I can tell you that some would crawl over broken glass to get the that choc bar on the other side. You need to give folks solutions and not strong limitations in the first few weeks of a candida diet approach.
I prefer Stevia, and have found that many who take it are overwhelmed by its sweetness and don't tend to get too carried away. Chromium picolinate at the rate of 500 micrograms a few times a day has helped many of my patients with Sugar cravings, and for KILLER cravings I recommend the herb Gymnema. I tend to move folks gradually away from sweet foods, never do it is a hurry. I'm not keen on promoting any anti-fungal or anti-bacterial properties of Xylitol to folks, they may start to have LOTS of it in the belief they will be "cured" of a yeast infection, LOL.
I prefer promoting the antifungal/antibacterial or real yeast inhibitors/killers like garlic, oregano and GSE.
