Good point, chrisb1, about keeping the metabolic rate up in order to accelerate weight loss. About the other issue of liver and kidney stress in a long fast, I am sure that I was nowhere near starvation after only 22 days (for one thing, I was not hungry), but my metabolic blood test panel showed abnormal values for liver, kidney and calcium which scared me into stopping the fast. I intend to take a post-fast metabolic panel next week to compare the results. I lost more muscle mass than I would have expected assuming protein sparing with little activity. It has taken about two weeks for my vitality to be restored and that is with the help of Superfood! I would need to have your depth of experience to venture beyond three unsupervised weeks next time, if there will be a next time. I still have some doubts about safety in spite of your comforting reassurance and I would rather believe you than the nay-sayers who are much more discouraging for independent fasting! My peripheral neuropathy condition has actually gotten slightly worse since the fast, especially noticeable by tingling in the feet on waking up from sleep. This suggests that the fast may have had some effect on it. The fast may have been slowly working to cure it even though progress was undetectable day by day. Maybe a longer fast would do the trick, who knows? I would rather try a Superfood cure first, if possible, and maybe get a heavy metals test to confirm suspected arsenic poisoning from desert well water over nine winter seasons homeless in the Sonoran desert of Arizona. I will report on this later.
