I have to say that I haven't done the Primal Diet exactly as it's supposed to be done, because I've hardly eaten any raw meat so far. I first started with cheese and cream, which didn't bother me. I was surprised at how much cream I could eat without getting sick because in the past fats have caused problems. Now I know it was because I was trying to eat the wrong kinds of fats. I started to feel better because I stopped eating so much raw vegetables which cause me abdominal pain. My abs got flatter after the second day! Then I started drinking raw milk with egg yolks added to it. This was so easy to digest that I started to have it for breakfast and then again later in the day. I started to get really tired and bloated. I guess it was too much carbs and not enough protein, and that caused to much insulin production. Along the way I tried eating a raw hamburger, which felt like it just sat in my stomach. Later that day I felt like I was going to die. It felt like my whole insides was going into a terrible cramp. Well, I didn't die, and the next day I didn't feel too bad. Since then I've eaten raw fish on and off, and some rare meat. When I eat the raw fish I feel okay. When I sear it, I think it bothers me a little, but I'm not positive about that. The rare meat has bothered me. When I try to follow the diet without the raw meat or fish, after a couple of days I feel as though I need it really badly. Today I finally ate some ground beef, and it hasn't bothered me yet. I stopped eating, though, as soon as I felt like I couldn't handle any more.
I don't think I could have made it this far without some Chinese tinctures for the liver that I take. Many times I would wake up in the middle of the night feeling really sick and not be able to fall asleep. Tumeric or coptis seemed to help alot.
I read somewhere that raw dairy, eggs, and meat make you detox even faster than raw fruit and vegetables. Raw fruit and vegetables really make you detox, so the meat, dairy, and eggs could probably make most people detox so severely that they think they aren't good for you. So I have to make sure my body can keep up with the detox. One way to slow down the detox is to eat something cooked. Isn't that interesting?
Well yesterday I broke down and bought a Watermelon because I was so excited to find an organic one. That is the highest carb fruit I have eaten for about a month or so. Last night I felt very agitated, worried, and couldn't sleep for a couple of hours. That made me realize that I've been feeling calmer and more grounded. I've had chronic fatigue for over 20 years, and it's not cured yet, but I have been able to do more around the house. I usually crash in the afternoons. I could go on, but that's enough for now.
Maybe you're having such a hard time because your liver can't handle it. Your symptoms sound like those related to the liver.
The book was a big help for me. It's a very different way of looking at things. It is starting to make sense to me. I'm still not 100% sure about everything with the diet, though. That's why I like the idea of this forum. You can read about other people's experiences and learn from them.
