Despite my setback over the last couple of weeks, I just kept on with my treatment plan, upping my probiotic dosage, & things are getting back to normal. Somehow it’s very confidence inspiring that I was able to bring it back under control after it got out of ”whack” again. I was thinking the other day that we have created a network of women helping women, teaching & learning from each other, & healing ourselves. Very cool. [End]

My pH is back up to 4.7, & I am having a slight smell with discharge, but I just had to have a round of antibiotics for a UTI. I felt like I was taking poison when I had to take the antibiotics. The antibiotics didn’t work on the UTI, gave me a horrible yeast infection that took 2 rounds of Diflucan & a round of Monistat to clear up (not sure if it’s completely cleared up even). And now, obviously the BV is trying to come back. I’m feeling really discouraged, but I’m trying so hard to stay positive. Went to my Dr. yesterday. My pH was at 4.5 (which is about what I’d gotten the night before). About .5 high, & since I’m about to start my period, it’s exactly what I expected. I am BV free for three solid months! I have my sex life back. I’ve lost 30 lbs since January. I didn’t realize how depressed I’d been -- just how much this was affecting my life. I feel like I’ve gotten my life back. I also gave her info about the Biofem Active Gel (available in the UK OTC) & the info on the Aci-Jel (available in the U.S. by Rx only). Hey, I didn’t know about the Acid Jelly. I am sure that’s the same thing as the Biofem Active Gel. In the UK it’s available without a prescriiption. I will take in my Biofem to my gynocologist at my next appointment & ask if it’s the same thing. The Jarrow’s Femdophilus is the same stuff as the Nature’s Way Primadophilus Reuteri. The only information I can add to that is that the variety that has to be refrigerated seems to be more effective. I don’t know if Jarrow’s has one, but I know Nature’s Way does. [End]

It has been three months since I started my self-treatment. I have been BV free for three months. After being on the oral probiotics only a few days I started seeing a difference. I used the powdered probiotics with (unsweetened, unflavored, organic) yogurt a few times, but abandoned it because of the mess. I purchased some Bio Fem Active Gel, which I had to purchase from the UK. I take one probiotic a day now, instead of the three, just to maintain. Sometimes I forget to take it. Before my period starts, I up my dosage to 2 a day when I can feel things are just not quite ”right ...

I went to see my Dr. today, & I couldn’t have asked for a better visit. After having been on oral probiotics L. Rhumnosus & Reuteri since Saturday, my pH level had dropped from 5.5 to 4.5 -- near normal! I told the Dr. about the Atobium vaginae. She hadn’t heard of this before but was extremely interested. She took the medical study/article that I had brought with me. I told her what all I had learned about probiotics specific to the vaginal tract & discussed the probiotic treatments with her. As many of you here, I have suffered from chronic BV for years, four years actually. It’s amazing to me how I can go to a doctor, who will tell me first that it’s just a “nuisance” problem, and when I go back he’ll tell me he’s never had anyone who didn’t respond to this ____ treatment. Yet if you do a search for chronic BV on line you come up with thousands of hits like this forum of women saying the same thing & having had doctors who said this same thing. How can both be true? If men had pain, itch, and a smelly discharge from their penis for years, it would be a national health emergen ...
