Ended triple therapy against blastocystis 6 weeks ago. I do feel a little bit better now but not at all completely symptom free. Yesterday I got the results of my stool test and BH didn’t show up anymore. I really hope this is not a false negative result. Hoping that this bug is really gone and that my gut needs time to heal. Also going to start three colon hydro therapys next week to ’clean’ my intestines; hoping this will help heal the consequences of the parasite load of the last five years. Fingers crossed....   [End]

Had an appointment with my doctor at the tropical institute in Belgium. He tried to conveince me again that blastocystis is really really apathogenic and it’s irrealistic from me to put all my hope on it. He also said that if the triple therapy won’t eradicate the BH, I will have to live with them because there won’t be a harsher therapy then this. But so according to him not causing symptoms at all so anyway I will have to learn to live with my undiagnosed symptoms. It has been almost three weeks now since I took the meds from the CDD and afterwards had to fight off a heavy streptococcal infection. Just ended the CDD triple therapy for blasto last wednesday. Took the first line therapy being Diloxinide, Secnidazole and Bactrim + added doxycycline 50 mg myself in case of any hidden co existing D. Fragilis. Took them every 8 hours around the clock: 6am, 2 pm and 10 pm together with a good (diet) meal. My diet involved only eating chicken, fish, lots of vegetables and eggs and some nuts. So no grains, carbs, red meat, diary products... Drinking lots of water and green herbal tea with lemon. No any other medicine or natural supplements. I have one more small question about how to take the meds. On this forum I’ve read it might be better to take them every 12 and 8 hours around the clock to provide the best levels in the gut. Does this mean the Septrin/Bactrim (or Nitazoxinide in the second line treatment) is not taken together with the other meds? The other meds 3 times a day for example 6 am, 2 pm and 10 pm; if the bactrim is taken together with them at 6 am and 1O pm, there is a time difference of 16 hours and next 8 hours between it instead of 12 hours. Hey Harryozzy, can I ask you how are you doing posttreatment? You still have the massive food allergy/ intolerance or is this gradually getting better? Did you develop these intolerance during/after the therapy or was it already one of the symptoms of the blastocystis infection? You mention all your other symptoms have disappeared, can I ask you which were your main disabling symptoms? I didn’t find this in your older posts... Just wanted to let you know that the medications from CDD have just arrived (without any problems at customs) and I am planning to start the therapy tomorrow afternoon or monday morning (together with the doxycycline I decided). After being sick for such a long period of time I am hoping for a miracle here. Hey guys, The centre in Australia has just sent me the meds of the first line treatment (I hope they will easily pass Belgian customs) but I’m still in doubt whether or not I should add doxycycline as well? D. Fragilis didn’t show up for me but I only had two stool tests done and I’m afraid for false negative results (considering BH and DF have found to accompany each other a lot). The Centre would not recommend treating any parasite that has not been detected in the stool sample. They say antibiotics should not be administered prophylactically in this situation. Hi Shrimpy, It’s quite a difficult question you ask me. Of course every day is slightly different but overall I am only able to function within the house. I feel very sick (headache and diziness/lightheadedness) after waking up, then after a few hours I do some work (some small household tasks, some paperwork, cooking, searching the internet for my disease...); have to lay down a little bit after it; again do some small things and so on. Can I also ask you guys how much you had to pay to obtain the meds? I got an email from this medical centre in th UK who have the meds available (this was suggested by Jackie from badbugs). They say I first have to arrange a telephone consultation with this Dr Econs and on his prescription the meds can be forwarded to me. All together this will cost me around 600 euro... Hey Yahia and coralreef, Thanks very much for your supportive words. Doctor wanted me to take albendazole because my husband was infected with giardia for several years. It was logical for him also to treat me for this, although giardia was not proven for me. But he took into account the possible false negative results; I think that was a smart thing from him to do. Hey Shrimpy, Thanks a lot for the information. My diet from now is: no grains, carbs, red meat... Only water, green tea, fish, chicken, lots of vegetables and some nuts. The rumble and tumble in my bowels is much better but this is not the case for my other symptoms. I’m sure the diet won’t control the BH but just want to try to maximise my chances for treatment success. Thanks for your kind answer, first of all I want to say that it is definitely not my intention to frighten anyone. I think it’s not necessary that everyone develops headache after a while. I know that I am prone to headaches when I’m exhausted. First I thought the fatigue was a consequence of the constant headaches but I figured out it may also be the other way around. Maybe other people - like you- might experience severe joint pain instead of headaches for example.
