Hi guys, I have been a longtime lurker but I thought I might make a post and finally ask for help. Thanks for taking the time to read this.
In late september of '09 I decided that I wanted to Bowel Cleanse to eventually do a Liver Flush down the road....so I bought Sonnes #7 (bentonite clay) and organic psyllium husk by organic india. I took LESS than the recommended dose just to start out slow, maybe a teaspoon of both, once, for a couple days. I made sure to drink PLENTY of water trust me...but nevertheless I felt myself immediately get plugged up and I couldn't go for SEVERAL days after that. I stopped taking bentonite/psyllium right then.
Once I was able to relieve myself after that horror show of constipation, my poop floated, and was slightly lighter colored if I remember correctly. Up until about a few weeks ago, my poop continuted to float (steatorrhea-not digesting fat properly), I had pencil like stools at times, sometimes light colored, sometimes very dark colored, sometimes my poop had no form at all, and generally just constipated. Like, after I would go, I would still feel like I had more left in me.
It's almost like I lost my ability for peristalsis; AND my bile flow is blocked from the Bentonite clay I presume.
I never had a problem with floating stools or constipation before I took this Bentonite clay/psyllium. I was very regular. Btw, even when I tried psyllium alone I'd got constipated. Now I presume this Bentonite clay is cemented on the walls of my intestines.
So since october of last year, I've tried everything. I've tried SWF, doesn't do much. I've tried enema's, I can barely hold the water in for more than 20 seconds. I've had 3 colonics but can't last more than 10 minutes because of the pain and discomfort. I swear there is something blocking me up there. I even tried Oxypowder , which didn't do much either.
A month and a half ago I discovered Dr. Christopher's lower bowel formula/lbb capsules. People swore by it so I decided to give it a shot. Turns out it gave me a little relief and made me regular. My poop still floated most of the time but it had better form so I figured lbb was doing its work...
***BUT (this is what i need help with!)..since last week I started becoming less regular and my poop was more formless when it hit the water or short and pencil like. Then from a few days ago I have been MORE CONSTIPATED than I ever have been in a long time. I have not emptied my bowel in 3-4 days!! Dr. Christophers lbb is not helping and I even took CASTOR OIL this morning, 3 TBSP which hasn't done anything! I think what made it bad was eating a lot of bread a few days ago..but eitherway I gotta find something to get me relief!
Please help...
A summary about me:
Early 20's guy, healthy diet, no fast food, no soda, eat almost everything organic. 4 servings of fruit a day. Eat meat but not in excess. Drink plenty of water (8-10 glasses/day). Never had these problems with constipation before bentonite. Now, after last september, if I eat a lot of grains/pasta/rice/bread it constipates me.
What doesn't help my constipation: prunes/prune juice, SWF, Oxypowder , castor oil (as of today), and dr. christopher's lbb (as of last week)
My thoughts are that my liver is blocked by this bentonite clay not allowing the bile to flow into my intestines, plus its cemented in my intestines slowing peristalsis as well. Any thoughts?? Let this be a warning to anyone thinking of trying bentonite, THINK TWICE!!
Anyway..would appreciate any suggestions on getting some relief of this constipation ..what do I do?

MoreThis is a reply to # 1,637,716I would start taking generous amounts of Dr. Vogel's Milk Thistle Complex, it has milk thistle, dandelion, artichoke and boldo that are all good for detoxing the liver. Taken in enough quantity, it'll help your constipation.

N-acetyl-cysteine also helps the liver (amino acid), if you're concerned about your liver being congested.

Finally, I'd pop over to Natural Healing and post. Uniquity has a store front where you can get Dr. Christopher's and Dr. Schultz's products with the original formulation.
A parasite cleans and Liver Flush are probably a good idea for you eventually. She'll probably recommend that you get on the intestinal formulas 1 and 2 and maybe some bitters to help the gall bladder. Vogel's is bitter too, in addition to taking the tincture in water, you can put a few drops on the tongue to help trigger bile release.
I think that what might be going on (in addition to parasites) is your bowel might be inflamed -- the pencil thin stools is a symptom of inflammation. Slippery Elm tea is a good soother.

Thanks so much for your quick reply. I really appreciate it. I will check out the supplements you recommended. I think you're right about the inflammed bowel too, I remember reading that a while ago.
Since my post, I was able to have a couple bowel movements ( I guess the castor oil kicked in) but now I have a hemorrhoid. I'm going to get some Rutin since I heard that helps.
Where is this "Natural Healing" you mentioned, is it another forum?

Just my thoughts but I don't think your drinking enough water.
General guideline is to drink half your body weight in ounces daily. If we use 8 glasses as an example, that's roughly 64oz of water. Barely enough for a 125-130lb person. I'm assuming you weigh more than that since your a guy. Keep in mind this is the range without any type of bowel cleansing.
Secondly how much dietary fiber are you getting a day? Sounds like your not eating many leafy greens, fruits are great, but without the fiber, your going to get backed up.
I've also heard its normal to feel constipated for the first few days on P&B shakes.
I just started P&B's a couple days ago and dramatically increased my water intake. Went from 70-80oz a day to nearly a gallon and have been having 3-4 small bowel movements a day on one shake.
Try to aim for 30-40 grams of fiber through food and dramatically increase your water intake.

This is a reply to # 1,637,834I have heard that for 30 years and it does nothing for me. I probably eat twice the recommended amout of fiber and drink at least a gallon of water a day. Does nothing. I think most people on this forum have already been there, done that....that is why they are here - to find solutions outside the usual and customary. Every doctor I go to says that as well, it is to the point that I want to say "Do you think I'm stupid?" I am way beyond fiber and water....that is why I look for other suggestions here and I am so glad to have found this site. No offense, but think about it.

Yucca root or licorice root are steroidal anti-inflammatories that are great for reducing intestinal inflammation. Both yucca and licorice support the adrenals as well that produce the body's own anti-inflammatories among their many other functions. These herbs also help with building up the flora I mentioned earlier.

These work by increasing collagen and elastin in the blood vessels. Butcher's broom helps by supplying silica and by contracting the superficial blood vessels.

This is a reply to # 1,637,740Is it possible you took Sodium Bentonite? which is used to plug things, like holes in pond liners.
Using apple Cider Vinegar will omit the salt, that causes the Bentonite to swell more then the regular Bentonite. Here's a link to explain it more.

This is a reply to # 1,637,716I had a similar experience with psyllium - I found that for added fiber I could take hemp seed hulls but oat bran works the best - always mixed with the food I eat. You may have a prblem like mine - I am sensitive to gluten and have Celiac Sprue. The gluten containing food I was eating before I went on a gluten free diet (no wheat, barley, rye) was causing a autoimmune reaction in my small intestine, not my large intestine. The methods you have been using are to improve the health of the large intestine (bowel) and won't do much good until you do something about the small intestine. Gluten sensitivity/Celiac disease seems to be the most common cause of non-tropical sprue. Just having sprue means you have had significant damage to your small intestine and it is important to figure out the underlying cause .
There are some intestinal bacteria which partially paralyze paristalsis. I have had a problem with bacterial overgrowths and done various herbal programs to restore my normal gut flora. To get food going more quickly through my small intestine I have used Cascara sangrada, drinking more water, high doses of Vit. C, many liver flushes, turmeric and more. Look at the information at Celiac.com.

I agree with oat bran. I also love rice bran, which has a wonderful nutty flavor and is high in gamma oryzanol that has many healing properties. Both oat bran and rice bran are also great sources of B vitamins and they are not hard on the intestines like wheat bran and psyllium.

Forgive my tardy reply ... all of this is done around a job.
wanderer, I too couldn't tolerate any of the fiber colon cleansers that I tried in the early days! They locked me down like a drum. Chinese medicine talks about moist and dry heat in the digestive tract, so all of us start at a different place. What is life-saving for some seems to be detrimental for others.
From the fibers, I decided to try an oxygen cleanser also. I went with homozon, because it is lemon activated, figured that would be good for my VERY sick liver. It worked!!! Trying to keep it adjusted so that I could work tied by my ears to a computerized phone system was quite something to behold!! With a bit of experimenting, I learned to keep things flowing and do harder hitting colon cleansing on days off. I did that for about 6 months. Thing was, it wasn't healing the problem. Anytime that I went off it, I was constipated again in weeks, if not days.
THEN came LBB, MHs version of Christopher's bowel formula!!!
GOLD .... VOILA!!!!!!!!!
Thing with LBB, you take enough to stimulate 3 bowel movements each day. If you're not going, you're not taking enough. If you're going too much, you're taking too much. This is NOT a one size fits all thing, this colon cleansing; especially not if you have bowel dis-ease!!!!!!
ALSO, this isn't about doing one cleanse, then doing another. Toxins are systemic, the whole ball of wax (YOU) needs cleansing, you get ALL systems of elimenation open and flowing so the toxins can get out.

Hi plzchuckle, I'll be sure to check out those threads. LBB was doing great for me too! I got Dr. Christopher's brand. But last week it seemed to stop working...I dunno why.

Wanderer, I've been at cz for 4 1/2 yrs now, screaming at the folks to re-educate: readReadREAD. I'm building a "Library" here for just that. There are how many discusion forums here already???
These articles have been accumulating for more than 3 yrs. I've tried to carefully organize/catagorize them for easier subject reading. If you will notice they are alphabetized from the bottom up. Thus, I'm taking the "extra" threads out as the discusion dies.

The original formula is said to have come from Europe. Dr John R. Christopher made the formula as his Lower Bowel formula. MH makes a version of it that he calls Lower Bowel Balance. (MH is The Barefoot Herbalist here at curezone.)

Don't use it. It's not good for health.
When I took Bentonite clay It also caused me constipation. Eat a lot and a lot the constipation will finish.

Have you tried kefir or cultured foods to restore the flora? Peristalsis in the intestines is regulated by the serotonin produced by the flora.
The flora also generate acids that can help dissolve the bentonite.

I am currently dealing with the same problem. It all started a few weeks ago after a liver flush. It wasn't particularly productive, I had just expelled a few green stones but still felt movement in my liver so I think I still have a lot of stuff in there. My bowel movements started becoming pencil thin or just loose and no matter what I took I got the same results. I went back to all my trusted herbs, tonics, P&B shakes but nothing has been working this time. The products I'm taking are from Uniquity's store and they are very good quality. However, given that I now have an inflamed bowel, they only give me loose stools and incomplete eliminations.
I went back to basics, meaning to Dr. Bernard Jensen 's 'A Guide to Better Bowel Care' and slowly started doing his program. I've done his program last year and have eliminated plaque and was feeling very good. I haven't been able to juice fast this time around. I live in New York and life here revolves around seeing friends, going out for a drink or dinner, etc. This is what did me in to begin with. Another problem is that I've been so weak and lacking energy that I didn't have the mental strength to tackle the juice fast. What I did was to start with a P&B shake a day and take the IF1 formula to eliminate the next day. If you don't take it you're in for big trouble, as you know. You can drink gallons of water and it won't help. I am now up to 3 shakes a day and 3 IF1 capsules. My stools are getting thicker by the day which indicates that the bowel is getting stronger and cleaner.
I also do enemas to which I add some liquid chlorophyll. I used to do coffee enemas but I think they irritated my colon, so for the time being it's just chlorophyll. I am having a hard time holding the water, just like you, but every bit helps. Just keep putting more water in that bag and start again.
Another important part of my program is changing the way I eat. Eating healthily comes easily to me but lately I've indulged too much in sweets and wine and coffee. It's stupid, given the fact that I had given up on the stuff altogether and was feeling amazing. I've also given up on bread and am eating mostly raw, but also cooked or steamed vegetables. I am juicing daily to give myself a shot of natural vitamins and minerals.
By the way, stop taking all that junk, the supplements, because you're not absorbing them anyway. At this point, you're only absorbing liquids and juices are the way to give yourself nutrients. Only when your intestines, including the small intestine, are clean can you absorb supplements. Even then I wouldn't take them because they only burden your liver. Artificial stuff is not being absorbed by the body but stored away in tissues.
Speaking of the liver, after 20 unproductive Liver Flushes I can say with confidence that the liver will NOT release any stones into a colon that doesn't eliminate properly. I wouldn't even begin with a parasite cleanse until you're eliminating regularly. At this point, focus on getting your bowel healthy, then you can do all the other cleanses. Adding one more thing to your body will just constipate you completely.
By the way, the oxyclean or colosan cleanse may work for some but not for others. When your bowel is inflamed you need to go back to nature. Drink fresh green juices as often as you can.

What a helpful reply, thanks so much. I was looking into juicers last night and from what I've deduced, masticating is better than centrifugal. What do you use?
I want to get on board with this juicing thing, do you recommend Dr. Jensen's book you mentioned (for our problem) or other books as well? I have no idea where to start, never juiced before.
So you credit the thick stools to IF1? Is that the same as Dr. Schulz's Intestinal formula #1?
I def have cut out my supplements and won't be doing any Liver Flushes until I get my bowels back to normal.
