Hi Everyone
I have been reading the posts about L-glutamine and n-acetyl d-glucosamine, intestinew etc. I have horrible Body Odor , feet breath anything that can smell will.
I decided to get tested to find out if I had leaky gut a while back and it seemed I did have it but it wasn't too bad. At the same time I got phase I and II liver detoxification pathways tested. I felt they were important tests in order to find out what was wrong. I had been on the an anti-candida diet and taken three lac and pro-biotics and it hadn't helped with Body Odor but I am sure it is very good for you. Not to mention intestinal cleansing with colonics, chlorophyl, gse, pysllium, vegetarian/ low choline diet, you name it.
So leaky gut showed up as not too bad (my therapist said she had seen much much worse and probably in a person without Body Odor !) However my liver was in a mess. I had a very very fast phase 1 which changes chemicals into a more toxic substance ready to be broken down by phase II which was very slow. Strange how one would be working very well and the other so slow, I thought all of the livers detoxification pathways would be either slow or fast. She said this was a big problem for cancer and pointed out my father had cancer very young, and it can be hereditary.
So I tried to find something that would only boost phase II and found SAMe or S-adenosyl-methionine
Strangely enough it talks a lot about glutathione which is coming up a lot in this forum. Maybe other people here have impaired liver detoxification pathways. I have not any Kidney tests.

I think you have to take it for a least a month or two before it starts to help. I am not sure if it will help with body odor or not but I think it is worth a try if helps leaky gut and liver detoxification it can't be bad.
I am going to try Intestinew, Milk Thistle, maybe nullo or odex with a non dairy diet at the same time. I will also TRY to give up smoking again. Any encouragement very welcome.

This is a reply to # 560,966Did the stuff you read about glutathione say anything about taking n-acetyl cysteine as well? I've read stuff that says that NAC is a precursor of glutathione and if you want to boost your glutathione levels, this is the best way. Taking glutathione directly doesn't do anything apparently, unless you inject it intravenously, which they say is very expensive. Where did you do your liver detox profile? Did you send away to Great Smokies Labs or something like that or have a doctor do it?

Interestingly three of us from the U.K got tested and we all have problems in the sulphating detoxification pathway of the liver. All 3.

I have been taking Milk Thistle seed, Silbybum marianum by Natures Answer, fluid extract 1:1. that is all it says on the bottle. The lady in the shop said this was much stronger than the other options and to take it for a month and then give my liver a rest. I have nearly taken all of it and no change in odor, sorry to say. But it may be speeding up phase I as that is my specific problem.
I think saunas, an oxygen colon cleanser, probiotics, the 2 kinds of intestiNew, chlorella or chlorophyll with zinc, changing the body to an alkaline environment are all useful, take a look here-

There is so much more to getting rid of Body Odor that I don't know about and I can't afford to buy everything. I just joined a gym that has saunas and that cost a fortune so everything will take time. Please let me know how you get on with SAMe Jso, I guess it might take a couple of months to see any change and I don't think one thing is going to be enough to get rid of Body Odor permanently. Please keep posting as I need encouragement to keep going with each treatment. I used to try something for a week and then give up when I saw no change and I am realising that with natural products you need to give a lot more time and use combinations. I really hope something helps all of us and soon.

This is a reply to # 560,989In terms of waiting for stuff to work, I don't know about that. When I took probiotics, I felt the die-off only a few hours later and I would get really sleepy. This is probably for two reasons - 1. I was taking a highly potent one that was of high quality (Kirkman Labs) and 2. my liver was already overloaded, so any extra burden on it would shut me down. But it showed me that it was good stuff. When I took VSL#3 or Custom Probiotics, I didn't get this same reaction or as much. Also, when I started taking Odex, I noticed that I had to pee a lot more and my digestion improved. This happened after one day. I realize that if you are taking psyllium or something like that to do a colon cleanse, then the colon isn't going to get cleaned in one or two days. But for things that have a chemical effect on the body, I generally expect to see some kind of result, either in digestion or energy levels or something, within a few days tops. I am admittedly somewhat impatient, so sometimes maybe I could wait stuff out, but also, sometimes it's not the right time to introduce something, i.e. before doing any liver detoxing, they say you must clear the exit pathways first, meaning the colon and kidneys. Now that Odex has seemed to have helped my kidneys, I am ready to attack the liver.
As for the SAMe, I don't know. I started it yesterday and have taken 3 tablets of 200 mg (Jarrows), but it has really given me an upset stomach. I don't know if this is because it is in tablet form (I have problems digesting tablets) or because my body is just rejecting it or if it is cleaning out my liver and as these toxins are being released from my liver in the form of bile, they are irritating my intestines. But regardless, it's made me run to the bathroom like 5 times today. I think I will take a break for awhile. Maybe this is not what I need. I was thinking of taking Silymarin, but it's hard to find a brand that is of high quality or high potency. Vit-immune looks interesting because I was looking for something like that. It is a bit expensive, but what I've found is that usually (and I stress usually) the more expensive stuff is, the better it works. I know price doesn't equal quality, but it seems that in the world of homeopathics, this is somewhat true.
Also, if money is short, at least you can improve liver function with your diet. The brassica family is high in glutathione. So eating foods like broccoli, cauliflower and I believe asparagus will definitely help your liver out. I notice this following days that I eat california medley (broccoli, cauliflower and carrots). Best of luck and please keep updating because I too like to hear about progress and what things work and don't work.

I am sorry to hear SAMe is not working. I think I will take it anyway because it's specific to my body. At least it helps with Depression which I am. Body Odor has brought up a lot of issues of self disgust.
I am not sure about candida being the cause of Body Odor , many people have candida and don't have an odor. I think the systems of elimination like the kidneys etc must be taxed as you say. I have had Body Odor from the age of 12/13 and I am now 33. Thats a long time. When I was that young I was generally healthy and I don't think my organs or my colon were particularly toxic, but in this day and age I could be wrong.
When I eat asparagus I stink, strangely enough. But will try to stick to a green veg diet and do the best I can with the supplements I buy. I went to a friend who is a homeopath and it seems the remedy I got hasn't helped. But time will tell.
When you got die off, did your odor get worse? Did you notice any difference?

In general, when you detox, they say your BO might increase (this is for "regular" people). So for people with chronic BO, it makes sense that their BO would increase as well.
You said that you've had BO since you were pretty young. Are you just starting to try stuff now to address the issue or have you been trying for the past 20 years?
I don't know if candida causes it right away. But I think it is part of a process. For me, I can't eat wheat gluten. So this was already stressing my liver and kidneys probably when I was younger. This intolerance I believe led to acne, which led to Antibiotics , which led to candida, which led to a bad liver, leaky gut and poor digestion, which led to massive bacterial overgrowth when I stopped Antibiotics , which led to an even worse liver and kidneys, and then BO.- Re: Intestinew and SAMe- what do you... gemmatoo

I read all of the article you gave a link to. It's very indepth, I will take out of it the relevant parts. I had all mercury fillings removed about 3 years ago. A past attempt at detox.
So to answer your question I have been trying things for quite sometime. I first went to a doctor about this aged 21. I have since realised that doctors don't help much and natural medicine is more suited to this problem. i.e. a doctor can't give us a drug to make this go away as toxins are part of the problem. It seems my odor comes and goes and therefore affects my life more at certain times. But it has got worse lately.
Unlike you I have not taken Antibiotics for a long period. I just took them when I had a cold or something in childhood, which was quite a lot. The only drug I was taking consistently was ventolin for asthma. I just looked it up and found - VENTOLIN® HFA (albuterol sulfate HFA inhalation aerosol) Strange how it has sulfate in the title and I have problems sulfating. Maybe in my case instead of Antibiotics it was the inhaler that destroyed the sulfating pathway in my liver. Incidently ventolin inhalers were invented when I was about 12 and that's when I got my first one! I carried it everywhere and took it a lot. However I wasn't the only kid with an inhaler. But maybe it just affected me more. Well that's a thought...... the odor started round about that time. Other than that I was a healthy kid who was always on a bike or roller skates. I think I should stop taking my inhaler.

This is a reply to # 561,003I think the problem for me is definitely the liver. I think this is what ties all the pieces together - kidney, colon, poor digestion, etc. (for me). Having taken Antibiotics and wellbutrin (an antidepressant) for 3+ years, this definitely took a toll on me liver. On all the non-holistic/homeopathic websites, they say the damage to the liver is irreversible, and depending on how bad the damage is, could lead to premature death. But on the natural websites, they say that SAMe or Milk Thistle can reverse damage and heal the liver. Those are the only two substances I've found that supposedly can heal liver damage or scarring. I'm disappointed that you said that Milk THistle didn't work for you, but maybe it was just the quality. There's a German company that supposedly makes high quality milk thistle - I can't remember the name though. I really hope that the damage is reversible. It must be. The liver is one of the best organs for regeneration so I am hopeful. If it was another organ I would be sceptical. I read your article and I have taken steroids for asthma and the pill for years which is apparently terrible for the liver. Luckily I am not taking any drugs now except my inhaler. I am going to reduce it to the least possible. Hopefully none at all once I can quit smoking. I know it's crazy to smoke and have asthma but giving up isn't that easy. I have given up in the past and started again, it didn't help with Body Odor when I quit last time so I got discouraged and started again. I should go to the quit smoking forum for that.
Well I am not sure the Milk Thistle I have is bad quality. The woman in the shop said it was the best and strongest they had and she was very knowledgeable. I think however taking Milk Thistle helps the liver but doesn't mobilse toxins I already have, so once I have done some cleansing my liver may be able to deal with Body Odor , but it's too overloaded with toxins right now. I have done fasting before and it didn't help. In your article it says fasting can actually increase liver damage. oh dear, I don't want to make any wrong moves in the future. I think juicing is good though.
I too have terrible reactions to alcohol. I got all woozy after half a glass of wine once. It was ridiculous but kind of funny. I also suffer from terrible hangovers and where others who drank twice as much can go out again the next night I could never never drink two nights in a row. I used to go out and drink coke. Which I don't think is much better because it has a load of caffeine in it. I think for us alcohol and caffeine are off limits. However it is important to go out and have fun and not let Depression take hold.
So I am going on a detox diet which includes quiting all toxins. I am very tired at the moment and I feel I just need to relax and take some downtime. Actually I am tired all the time. I wake up tired, no wonder really. What I don't understand is how I got so weak when most other people can manage fine. I was born jaundice and have always had a yellow tinge to my skin so I guess I was just born with less of a fighting chance than others.

I found an interesting website by a research company in Maine that compared some of the high potency milk thistle products out on the market. They seem to think that Silybin, the active ingredient of silymarin, is the way to go. You can check it out here:

Thisilyn is the same as Legalon but sold in the U.S. I plan to try Maximum Milk Thistle (Siliphos), however. It also has a money back guarantee, but it is weird because I think it is only for unopened products, which basically makes the guarantee pointless. So now I want to make an action plan of what I am going to do next.
Maximum Milk Thistle (Siliphos)
Vit-immune
intestinew or the other one
Chlorella with zinc
alkalizing diet
Flax seed oil and cottage cheese (or without cottage cheese not sure yet as cottage cheese has a lot of sulphates & is dairy)
Non Dairy
Saunas and skin brushing
Mild exercise (going swimming but not sure if chlorine will add to the toxic overload)
Reduce stress
Baking soda
No toxins whatsoever. Not even decafe coffee. (I am still smoking)
I want to write it out clearly so I know what I am doing and it works as my shopping list too.
I looked on the leaky gut site and they talk a lot about colostrum, it seems to be excellent for leaky gut but I think we are dealing with the liver. It seems however that if the colon is toxic and leaky gut are present any milk thistle I take in capsule form may not be digested. I like liquids better but will try Siliphos.
So can you write a list of what you are doing and I will try and do the same. Giving me time to order it all etc. Living in Europe a lot of the stuff will take longer by post.

Odex
Vita-Immune (to boost glutathione levels), also contains Glutamine and Glucosamine
Maximum Milk Thistle (to repair my liver)
Eventually I will add my Kirkman probiotics in once my liver can handle more stuff, but right now, anything I add that doesn't help the liver just adds more stress to it and makes me smell like feet even more.
As for my diet, I basically eat a no carb diet. Lots of spinach salad with protein (egg salad, tuna salad, chicken, etc.), boiled eggs, fruits (oranges, bananas, cantaloupe, honeydew), avocado, steamed frozen california medley (broccoli, cauliflower, carrots), dried fruit like blueberries occassionally, and that's basically it. Occassionally, I'll go out to eat, but I try to stick to the no carb diet. No refined sugar, caffeine or drugs - I will never take another one as long as I live.

One reason why people smell is because they comsume to much protein. Not only cut carbs, but also reduce the proteins. It is recommended only to eat not more than one ounce of protein a day. Think about it. Protein and sulphure are connected. Sulphure and Body Odor are DEFINILTY connected (even if you don't have TMaU diagnosis). If you look in dif. websites one way to control Body Odor is with zinc. Zinc controls the sulphure. Proteins are not only in meat, but also beans (kindney, lentils, etc.) And Sulphure is contained in broccoli, onion, garlic etc. Very important if you don't have success with vegan diet, it is because people still consume vegetables high in sulphur.- Re: Intestinew and SAMe- what do you... jso

This is a reply to # 561,015Your body needs sulphur to function and that is why foods like eggs, broccoli and onions are some of the healthiest foods there are. As for only eating one ounce of protein a day, I think this is definitely an insufficient amount. Your body needs amino acids to function properly, and the only place to get them is from protein, which is made up of amino acids. Also, when doing a detox diet, detox experts say to eat lots of protein because your body needs it to help with detox. The amino acids that make up glutathione, cysteine, glutamine and methionine, I believe, are essential to help your liver detox. Now, if your digestion is poor, then eating a lot of animal protein makes it hard on your system, otherwise it is fine. The problem is not eating too much protein, the problem lies in eating too little fiber. If you eat enough fiber, you can avoid putrefaction in the colon from animal protein. Zinc is necessary for the body to function properly, but it is hardly a cure for Body Odor . I tried it and it basically did nothing? It is a necessary component to getting rid of Body Odor since it helps the body function properly, but it is by no means a cure-all for BO. Did you find that zinc alone cured your BO problem?

I think that I did not mention anything about elimination of sulphur or proteins. I talked about reduction. I also did not say that Zinc CURED bo. I said it helps to control sulphur.

I hope to get the supplements soon. So next week I can start on the regime. I have read that for body odour it is best to go on an all green vegetarian diet. However I am eating fish today. I stink much more if I eat red meat. So will cut that out. As for fish and white meat. I don´t think they are particularly bad per se but most chicken is full of injected hormones and other drugs. Very full. Most fish is full of mercury so it adds to the toxic overload. I can´t afford to eat organic all the time so I think I will cut them down. On the other hand many vegetables are contamined with pesticides. So it´s a no win situation but I think veges are better. I know that onions garlic asparagus etc are full of sulphates but I think it´s more important to try to fix the sulphating pathway in the liver than to cut out some very healthy vegetables. I would cut down for a while if body odour would go away.
Also I read that someone smelling of feet a lot had isovalericacidaemia. Not sure of spelling. It is normally a life threatening disease at birth but some adult posted that he had a mild form of it, his doctor had found out in adulthood.
I think people on this site who have usually tried many many many things get frustrated when people tell them to try zinc, as if they haven´t thought of it. I have taken it and am still taking it and no change and this is the second time I have tried it. I think we get upset because it is kind of like someone saying take a shower! I wish it could be that simple. I really truely do. But all suggestions are good. I find there are not many people posting that have gotten over Body Odor .
