in AA you are either 'growing' or 'going'... one of the most subtle warnings in the big book is to not rest on ones laurels...
the fellowship of AA is unlike any other structure in the world... but then again it's very much like school... only in this case we are learning the truths about ourselves rather than the so called truths that our peers... schools... government... or religions often contaminate us with...
anyhow... my point is that it is very much like postgraduate/higher educational work as far as i am concerned... years of sobriety often lead many into a false sense of 'self' sufficiency... in which the 'ego' is back in control... when all along the big book tells us that our sobriety is contingent upon our spiritual condition...
and to think... all along i thought it was the alcohol killing me... totally oblivious of the depths of my ignorance... without AA i would have died... never having had a clue... which means...
"it's a wonderful day in the neighborhood"... (doesn't it)
lol...
