L-lysine and herpes
There are many diff herpes viruses.
AFAIK, the amino acid L-lysine will speed healing of outbreaks and prevent them if taken daily. Can get huge bottles inexpensively at Swanson's vitamins online.
Preventive dose: 500-1500 mg daily.
If one has an outbreak, one can take up to 2000 mg, perhaps more, several times a day until it resolves.
I am aware of the initial signs that an outbreak is coming, and just take the 1500 mg daily for a few days or a week when I notice the H is trying to break out.
I had used acyclovir previously. The L-lysine is much less expensive and works way quicker.
Stress is a major contributor. Poor diet, lack of exercise, negative thinking all seem able to lower the H incident threshold. If the H is a type that occurs where one's skin is exposed to the sun, a sudden increase in sun exposure with or without sunburn can trigger it.
Regarding "dormant" state of H viruses, if you are asking because of contagion issues, the latest info I have found warns that one is NEVER sure one is not contagious once one has H. [This referred to the STD, but should in principle apply to shingles, cold sores, etc. as well.]
BTW, WHY was this cross-posted at the chemical sensitivity forum???
