Pet Vs Boy

I am that boy, a middle aged male.

My new girlfriend [3 months] has a dog that is about 2 years old, sort of a puppy actually, and because of that we cannot move in together because there is simply no place to rent that allows pets in our small town.

Also, I have trouble relating to pets and I get frustrated when they don't obey and so on.

On the other hand, that dog is her best friend, and it will be more loyal than I ever could be.

The dog is a true companion for her, and I am "just" a boyfriend who loves her, but not the dog.

On the third hand, she has not put any effort into training this dog. It is allways running away and won't listen to commands and disobeys all the time [ya, its just a pup]. All that frustrates the heck out of me.

No way could I live with the dog, even if we did find a place that allows pets.

So I am just wondering what you'all think about this - is it reasonable to let a dog get in the way of people's relationships?

I think I would vote for the dog, but I have fairly low self esteem.
