just wanted your opinion on this vitamix blender. I live in the UK so those cheap stainless steel vitamix blenders you referred to before are unavailable to me. What do you think of this one, is it the same type of one you are referring to?:
The reason I prefer the stainless steel VitaMix over the polycarbonate (Lexan) models is because most polycarbonate utilizes a chemical known as bisphenol A (BPA) that can leach in to the foods processed in them. Here are some old posts on BPA:
Also, some pro-juicing site claimed that blenders that leave the pulp/fibre in are bad because you bypass the digestive juices of the mouth when you drink them and as a result it leaves the stomach with alot to do in terms of digesting. Is this true?
That is ridiculous. First of all the body does not digest the fibers anyway. They are fermented by the intestinal flora. So whether the fibers are exposed to the digestive enzymes in the mouth is irrelevant. And even if the fiber is removed from the juice, the juice goes through the mouth and down to the stomach at the same speed as juices with the fibers left in. They are also overlooking the fact that the same enzymes in the saliva come in to contact with the same food in the stomach when the saliva is swallowed. Basically their whole claim makes no sense at all.
