Interesting concept about plants with a bitter taste...
Hello, :)
I have read a book recently and there is an interesting concept in it, it is explained that the more bitter a plant is, the more it stimulates the liver.
In the book "The Amazing Liver & gallbladder flush" by Andreas Mortiz, even if this book is full of beliefs and theories, it is explained that the cause of poor digestion and of an infection in the digestive tube may be because the liver and gallblader do not produce enough bile to dissolve the foods, to kill the parasites, to control the bacterias overgrowth, etc...
The herb Centaurium erythraea (centaury) has a bitter taste and is described to have an effect on the production of bile.
The herb artemisia absintium (wormwood) has a bitter taste and is described to have an effect on the production of bile.
That's really interesting, as i understand it, it means that by eating a great quantity of an herb like these two, if there are no dangerous side effects, can really help cleanse the liver from all the obstructions and deposits it may have.
As i understand it, the "liver flush" is a bit too risky depending on if one has hardened stones in the liver and gallblader.
A great production of bile may also explain why the centaury has a laxative effect if eaten in great amounts... (as sd2345 explained in her posts)
