I have been in my doctor's office all day. I was just going for the routine re-check. I've had the Mirena for about 3 months now. The insertion was beyond painful (and I've had two kids)! The week following insertion was really painful as well. I was having very bad "cramps" that would take my breath away and stop me in my tracks. You can imagine how fun that was with a newborn and a toddler. I was assured that my body was adjusting to the mirena and to call back if it persisted or worsened. After about a week it did subside and I have had very few problems since- the occasional crampy feelings. Some lower back pain...nothing crazy. So, I go today...they cannot find the strings with an internal. I have not personally felt the strings either. Internal ultrasound is inconclusive. They cannot really tell if its there or not. Another, more aggressive internal results in not much more. By the way, I had to have a nurse hold my hand and insisted they numb my cervix! I was crying from the fear of the pain. I must admit that I did not have a lot of pain during this internal because of the pain medication. After this internal did not find anything, I was asked to come back a little later for another interanl ultrasound. A skilled ultrasound tech, and two doctors (that I happen to really like and trust) still cannot tell if its there or not! I am going back this evening to have a CAT Scan to determine if it is still there or not! I have been on an emotional roller coaster today. I can only hope that somehow this thing fell out!??! How in the world would that happen? They say it could have happened however unlikely. If it is still inplace, I am insisting that it be removed. After reading everything on this site, and this personal experience, I would not reccomend Mirena to anyone. Please tell me if you have had any similar experience.
