Re: Lugol's is made from kelp n/m
Wow, I'd never heard that...I've never even heard of a "brine well" :(
I got my information from another post that had this information:
http://www.ucc.ie/academic/chem/dolchem/html/elem/elem053.html
Extraction
Iodine is extracted from kelp, which is obtained by burning seaweed. Salts such as sodium chloride, potassium chloride, and potassium sulphate are removed from the kelp by washing with water. The residue is then heated with manganese dioxide and concentrated sulphuric acid, and the
Iodine is liberated.
2 I(-) + MnO2 + H(+) ==> Mn(2-) + 2 H2O + I2
And since I remembered something about
Lugol burning seaweed (or burning something), that's just how I figgered it was ALL made.
Thanks for the knowledge; I LOVE knowledge! (and Zeta water...I'm up to 100mgs, two days in a row...no detox :o)
