the wild swings in the weather are going to make gardening a huge challenge for even the most experienced gardener...

early and late freezes, droughts, heat waves will all take their toll... not sure that anything less than the immediate discontinuance of all farming chemicals would make much of a difference as the huge decrease in food production during the transition would also take its toll on production.
