Re: Diflucan for systemic candida update-continuing to improve
Thanks for all of the support that you give to this board, Deb! I have a lot of compassion for everyone here because I have a skin yeast infection, so I have to actually observe how it grows, takes over, and dies. It's very scary. After three days on Nystatin, the yeast is in remission for now and my skin is on the mend (very taught and dry, though, even painfully so.) However, places on my skin I thought were cleared after the week on Difulcan, actually weren't, and are now showing additional die-off (via large brown patches on the skin). It goes to show that yeast burrows deep and hangs on, even when you think it is gone.
I also started looking into prescriptions I'm taking. One is Nasacort for my allergies. Knowing that the literature discusses how cortisone adds to fungal and yeast problems, I Googled Nasacort and learned that one warning is, if you have a fungal infection, tell your doctor because you may not be able to take Nasacort. The warnings actually say that Nasacort may weaken your body's ability to fight the infection. I stopped the Nasacort days ago (after learning about the adverse effects of cortisone). Now, I may never start it again.
Another prescription I wonder about is Evista. I started taking it after menopause in April this year to avert osteoporosis, but one of the possible side effects it lists is a "white discharge from the vagina." Well, we all know what that is, for sure--not just any "white discharge." I'm not sure if I'll totally stop taking Evista (because it does have wonderful health benefits, including the possibility that it decreases the chances of breast cancer, but if this is a complication from that medication, it won't be doable in the future.
Again, thanks for all of your support. I've learned a lot from you.
