Re: narcissim in my life

that could be. i would imagine that the difference is more social than gender. the roles are pretty much reversed in our house and there is no difference. i had to get a restraining order.

violence doesnt have to be a facet of narcissism. narcissists are the penultimate opportunists - whatever works. men used to be highly enabled to physically abuse because corporal punishment was condoned and wives were seen as one of the mans charges, like his children. that is no longer true. rather than personality disorders, i think violent men today are just plain psychotic. they are chemically altered and overwhelmed by reality, so they make it up as they go or hold it all in until they snap. that is not narcissism. a person who commits a multiple murder/suidice cares much more about people than a narcissist ever could, even though the narcissist might never commit murder(they couldnt handle jail but they are opportunists - they could watch someone die and laugh) and are incapable of suicide(they love themselves too much to do that).

narcissism is the inability to have true empathy for anyone. all living things are objectified. many a wife beater truly loves their dog and would genuinely mourn its passing, which doesnt make them any less sociopathic. a narcissist couldnt care less, except for any drama they can extract from the situation. they live their lives all alone and die all alone, regardless of how many are around them.
