Raw Garlic is not recommended for people that have IBS or leaky gut. Its harsh sulfur compounds can further irritate the lining of the gut producing more inflammation and mucus production. If you have any kind of inflammation going on in the gut garlic will make it worst. Raw Garlic produced a lot of mucus/inflammation for me this was evident through the tube during my colonics. The intestinal tract produces more mucus to protect itself from the burning like qualites of the sulfur compounds.
†"RAW" Garlic caused insomnia for me as well because of the inflammation response that it was causing. If the body is going through a inflammation response it is going to disrupt sleep. Just like candida die-off would disrupt my sleep because of the inflammation response. Inflammation can cause the body to increase blood pressure and go in a fight mode.
Some debate whether garlic is counter productive for candida. Its possible that raw garlic can kill both good bacteria+bad bacteria/candida. When I was taking enteric coated garlic tabs it seemed to make my candida worst and caused more GI inflammation. I don't think its a good idea to take anything that can burn tissue causing inflammation without it being properly neutralized. Taking raw garlic which includes fiber/cellulose might burn the lower GI tract because fiber/cellulose is more designed to be broken down in the colon. There is a good reason why the body produces bicarbonates to help neutralize harsh acids(HCL/etc....) its so the acids do not burnthe parts of the intestine that are not "designed" for† acid exposure.† This is why the small intestine just past the duodenum has a alkaline PH. This part of the intestines is not designed for harsh acids including sulfuric acid. So ingesting excess raw garlic that has not been properly neutralized or broken down defeats this purpose.
Garlic enema not recommended unless you want to directly burn your colon tissue creating a lot of inflammation and mucus. The colon is not designed to neutralize excess irritating sulfuric acids.
After going through what I have -- I would support kyolic aged garlic any day of the week over any brand that is enteric coated. Cooking garlic/aging garlic breaks down its harsh sulfur compounds so it is easier on the GI tract.† This definitely applies for anyone that has GI inflammation.
